We offer student projects (Master thesis, Bachelor thesis, Semester thesis, Internship) in the field of rehabilitation engineering and motor learning. If you are interested in doing a project in one of those areas, please contact the responsible person. If you are interested in any of the specific student projects listed, you can directly contact the corresponding supervisor.

After stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and other lesions of the human central nervous system, the affected individuals often lose their ability to walk. Due to the plasticity of the nervous system, many of these individuals can re-learn walking to a certain extent by undergoing intensive gait rehabilitation. Our goal is to make gait rehabilitation more effective and efficient by combining novel approaches from both the medical and the engineering field. Student project topics in: Engineering, Human Movement Science, Interaction/Game Design Contact: Dario Wyss |

With continuous improvements in energy storage and actuator technology, knee prostheses that generate power become feasible. Our focus is on the control and the interface of those devices, which remains a big challenge. Student project topics in: Engineering, Mathematics, Human Movement Science Contact: Serge Pfeifer, Anna Pagel |

Neurological patients with paralyzed upper extremities (e.g. after stroke) often receive arm therapy to restore motor function. The arm rehabilitation robot ARMin was developed to assist and support the patient during the training. In our interdisciplinary team we develop novel patient-cooperative control strategies and new virtual training scenarios to optimize the patient training and increase the transfer to daily life. Student project topics in: Engineering, Human Movement Science, Interaction/Game Design Contact: Marco Guidali |

The Multi-Modal Motion Synthesis Laboratory aims at (i) the development of robots that enable haptic interaction in complex motor tasks, at (ii) the development of devices that measure the actual human performance during the motor task, and (iii) the design of unimodal (i.e. visual, auditory, haptic) and multimodal user-cooperative feedback strategies that facilitate complex skill learning. Own developments in the field of haptic interaction and of user-cooperative feedback are embedded in virtual scenarios that are displayed on large projection screens and by a wave field sound synthesis system. Student project topics in: Human Movement Science, Engineering, Interaction/Game Design, Mathematics Contact: Peter Wolf |

Functional MRI (fMRI) measures signal changes in the brain which are related to neural processes. To do fMRI investigations during active or passive movements, robots are needed to interact with the subjects. Therefore, we aim to develop robotic systems that perform defined movements, measure relevant parameters, and do not disturb the imaging process of fMRI. Student project topics in: Engineering, Human Movement Science Contact: Lukas Jäger |

The objective of this project is to develop a method to detect and quantify the state of alertness and optimize the awakening process in vegetative state and minimal conscious state patients. Student project topics in: Human Movement Science, Engineering Contact: Verena Klamroth |
