Enlarged view: Portrait of Yves Zimmerman

Yves Zimmermann received his B.Sc. (2015) and M.Sc. (2017) degree in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zürich. During the last year of his bachelor studies he was a core member of the Formula Student Electric team of the ETH Zurich and developed the vehicle dynamic controls. He focused his master studies on robotics and rehabilitation engineering. In his master thesis he investigated the feasibility of the design and controls of a self-balancing and dynamically walking exoskeleton as a prothesis.

Yves Zimmermann earned his doctorate from ETH Zurich (2022) for his research on developing a versatile upper-limb exoskeleton for Neurotherapy under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marco Hutter and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. med. h.c. Robert Riener. His work was published in various international journals, conferences, and patents.

Yves received the Outstanding D-MAVT Bachelor Award twice, first for his performance in the assessment year, and second for the whole bachelor studies. During his master studies he received the merit-based Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Award. Together with the AMZ (Akademischer Motorsportverein Zürich), he achieved the first place on the world ranking list of the Formula Student Electric in 2014, and held the world record for the fastest accelerating electric car from 0-100 km/h for 6 years.
